Short Title

Designating a portion of K-67 highway as the COII Trenton J Brinkman memorial highway, designating bridges on U.S. highway 54 as the Max Zimmerman memorial bridge and the Jack Taylor memorial bridge, designating a bridge on U.S. highway 77 as the PFC Loren H Larson bridge and designating a bridge on U.S. highway 166 as the Tyler A Juden memorial bridge.

Chairperson Petersen called the meeting to order and noted that SB100 had been referred back to the Committee and would be considered at Thursday's meeting.  He then opened the hearing on HB2247.

Assistant Revisor Adam Siebers briefed the Committee on the bill (Attachment 1).  He explained that the bill designates select portions of highways and bridges as memorials in recognition of notable Kansas citizens.

Senator Ron Ryckman, Sr., District 38, testified in support of the bill and identified sections 2 and 3 of the bill as the focus of his testimony (Attachment 2).  He reviewed the lives and contributions of Max Zimmerman and Jack Taylor as friends and colleagues; he especially noted that both men had significant influence in making U.S. Highway 54 south from Wichita into a four-lane highway.
